Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a round cake pan and prepare the blood oranges by slicing them into thin rounds.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in brown sugar until dissolved, spreading it evenly in the cake pan.
  4. Arrange the blood orange slices over the brown sugar mixture.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. In another bowl, beat granulated sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
  7. Add vanilla extract and milk to the egg mixture and mix well.
  8. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  9. Pour the batter over the oranges in the pan.
  10. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Let it cool for a few minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
