Ingredients
Scale
6 cups day-old French bread, cubed
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup raisins (optional)
1/4 cup butter, melted
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, milk, and cream. Let sit for 10 minutes to soak.
In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour this mixture over the bread and milk mixture, and fold in the raisins if using.
Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and drizzle the melted butter on top.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For added flavor, try using brioche or challah instead of French bread.
This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
