French Onion Grilled Cheese

A delightful take on the classic grilled cheese, infused with the rich flavors of French onion soup.

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices bread
  • 4 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 4 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. On a slice of bread, layer with a mix of Gruyere and mozzarella cheese, a few spoonfuls of caramelized onions, and some fresh thyme.
  4. Top with another slice of bread.
  5. Cook in the skillet until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted, about 5 minutes per side.

Notes
