Fried Apple Pies

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Stir in water until the dough forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Roll out the dough and cut into circles.
  4. Cook apples with cinnamon and nutmeg until tender. Place filling on one half of the dough circle and fold the other side over it, sealing the edges.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer and fry the pies until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
