  • 2 pounds boneless lamb shoulder
  • 1 pound beef chuck
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 8 pita breads
  • 1 cup tzatziki sauce
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. In a food processor, combine lamb, beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cumin, paprika, and cayenne. Pulse until well combined.
  3. Add olive oil and water to the meat mixture, and pulse again until everything is fully incorporated.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan, pressing down firmly.
  5. Bake for about 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  7. Serve with pita bread, tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider marinating the meat overnight.
  • Gyro meat can also be grilled for a smoky taste.
