- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 1/4 cup milk
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and salt. Add yeast and let it sit until foamy.
- Mix in flour until dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes.
- Let the dough rise until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into pieces, roll each into a long rope, and shape into pretzels.
- Boil water with baking soda; dip pretzels for 30 seconds each, then place on baking sheets.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- For the cheese dip, melt cheddar and cream cheese with milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.
