  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and salt. Add yeast and let it sit until foamy.
  2. Mix in flour until dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes.
  3. Let the dough rise until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Divide the dough into pieces, roll each into a long rope, and shape into pretzels.
  6. Boil water with baking soda; dip pretzels for 30 seconds each, then place on baking sheets.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For the cheese dip, melt cheddar and cream cheese with milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.

Notes

  • For softer pretzels, do not over-bake the dough.
